Sherman and Kay Critser ![]() For the glory of Jesus Christ Wanda Kay (Cummins) Critser: Kay is from Nowata, Oklahoma. She graduated from Northwestern College in 1969 with a teaching degree in English. She felt a call, through an article in Vital Christianity, our church magazine, to teach in Kenya and was finally accepted. She arrived in Kenya in the fall of 1969. She served there until December 1975. Sensing the need to receive more biblical training in order to teach Bible on the mission field, she returned to the States and entered the School of Theology, Anderson, Indiana in January 1976. She graduated from the S.O.T. in 1978 with a Masters of Arts in Biblical Studies. While in the S.O.T. she met and married Sherman L. Critser in 1978. Sherman L. Critser: Sherman is originally from Artesia, New Mexico. In 1971, after graduating from South Whitley High School he entered the Army Engineers, operating rode graders. He served in South Korea. In 1974 he entered Anderson College and graduated with a BA in Biblical Studies in 1977. During his time there he went on three Tri-S trips to central and Latin America, Brazil, Guatemala and Peru. It was through these trips that his calling to ministry in missions was narrowed and confirmed to missionary work. In 1977 he entered the School of Theology, Anderson, Indiana and graduated with an MA in missiology in 1979. In 1978 he married Wanda Kay Cummins. As a couple we applied to the Missionary Board of the Church of God in 1978 and were accepted and commissioned in 1979 to go to Tanzania, East Africa. We entered Tanzania in November 1979 and served there 14 years. Our service there was centered on leadership training, evangelism and church planting. This was accomplished through the Theological Education by Extension program (TEE) and pastor's seminars. We also helped to start several churches including the church in Dodoma, Tanzania. In 1993 we left Tanzania to serve in Goma, Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We served there from 1993 to 1995. We were there during the genocide of Rwanda and the massive refugee movements of that time period. We were involved in leadership development through seminars and the Bible School and refugee relief work. Because war was coming to that region of Zaire, we left and moved to Uganda. We served in Uganda from 1996 to 1999 doing the same things that we had been doing in these other countries. We then moved to Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa, in 2000 and are currently serving in this country. We continue to focus on leadership development through TEE and in the newly established, West Africa Bible Institute, teaching in French various courses in biblical and pastoral studies. In addition to this Sherman was made Regional Coordinator for Africa with the Global Missions of the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana in 2005.
